Alchohol Marker

Life insurance companies often run a test on your labs called a CDT, sometimes randomly and
sometimes in connection to elevated liver functions. If for some reason you care, CDT stands for
carbohydrate deficient transferrin. What you need to know is that if your CDT is positive you will be
declined because you are currently a heavy drinker. The test is so accurate that no retest is allowed.

Risk Life has poked and prodded at this hard line stance and we have been convinced by underwriters
and medical professionals that the test can’t be pushed to positive by a binge or a few drinks a day. A
positive test indicates long term heavy alcohol use and companies don’t want anything to do with it until
you have gone through treatment.
